These instructions are for connecting to a share on the SoE File Server. The instructions below will include placeholders that look like {YOUR-SHARE-HERE} - please replace that placeholder with the share name specified in the email in which you were provided the link to these directions.
The account you use to log in to the file share is your Office 365 account. If you aren't sure if you have an Office 365 account, feel free to ask. If you have forgotten your password you can reset it here: oit.uci.edu/password.
In order to connect from off-campus, or over WiFi, you'll first need to connect to the campus VPN.
The VPN software is called Cisco AnyConnect or Cisco VPN Client. If you have a laptop which was configured by us it should already be installed. If you do not have it installed, you can download it here: http://www.oit.uci.edu/
When you run AnyConnect (or VPN Client for older machines) it should start with a VPN server address already configured. If it does not, the address is vpn.uci.edu.
Once you have connected to vpn.uci.edu using AnyConnect there will be a drop down menu for which network you want to use. Select "UCIFull" and click "Connect" You will be prompted to log in with your UCINetID and password.
Once you are connected you may proceed with the below connection instructions.
For Windows users:
Open File Explorer from the taskbar or the Start menu, or press the Windows logo key + E.
Select This PC from the left pane. Then, on the File Explorer ribbon, select More > Map network drive.
\\files.education.uci.edu\GSE-
Make sure "Connect at login" is checked and "Connect using different credentials" is not checked.
Click Finish.
For Macintosh users:
With Finder selected, click "Go" on the top bar then "Connect to Server" In the path field type "smb://files.education.
To save a shortcut to this folder, while you have it open in Finder click File -> Add to Sidebar
